The Estates department is looking for an experienced and self-motivated, fast-working and efficient Groundsperson. This is a varied role which will support the team in ensuring the School’s grounds are maintained at all times.
The role will work alongside the Estates team and support the Head of Grounds Gardens and Director of Property in day to day activities. This role would suit someone with Groundsperson experience who thrives on a busy and varied workload. The Groundsperson will report to the Head of Grounds.
> Set out and prepare sports pitches for play including cricket, football, rugby, hockey, softball, tennis, netball and athletics
> Maintain grass and artificial sports pitches.
> Carry out operations on sports pitches and lawns with the use of pedestrian and ride-on equipment to scarify, aerate, top-dress, over-seed, lift and lay turf, feed, irrigate and cut.
> Safely use, maintain and clean grounds and horticultural equipment including hand tools, strimmer’s, hedge-cutters, pedestrian and ride on mowers, scarifiers, aerators, tractors and any other machinery required to undertake allocated tasks
> Take responsibility for jobs where you are the most senior person.
> Assist in developing apprentices and other members of team skills and knowledge.
> Support the PE and other school departments as and when required.
> Clean drives and pathways of debris, litter picking, clearing snow and applying grit salt as required
> Periodically assist with horticultural operations, such as planting, pruning and maintenance of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants and other non-Groundsperson tasks within the school as directed by the Head of grounds and Gardens or the Director of Property.
> Work in a tidy and safe manner so as not to put oneself or others at risk
> Follow departmental and school policies.
> The Groundsperson should possess the following attributes:
> Adaptable and be willing to complete tasks within certain time periods.
> Confident in working alone as well as part of a team
> Ability to use own initiative to solve problems efficiently
Previous experience of working in a school is not a requirement, but would be advantageous. However, lack of experience should not discourage good applicants from applying for the position. The post would suit an individual with some or all of the following:
> NVQ level 2 qualification in Sports Turf (or equivalent experience or qualifications
> Experience of working as a Groundsperson where high standards are expected
> Full driving licence
